‘Success is best achieved by being Useful’, the best mantra that Mr. Vidyashankar has shared with us. IAS Mr. M.N.Vidhyashankar is chairman, advisor and mentors in many incubators, startups, and Taiwanese companies. A 1982 batch IAS, Vidayashankar retired from service early this year. He has over 30 years of experience in management and administration of various government offices, autonomous bodies, boards and corporations and is serving on the board of various organisations. His approach to life is very simple yet profound, keeping yourself useful is best way to be both ‘Successful’ and satisfied. His passion is visible in his transformative approach towards his job and also his need to be engaged to provide value.
3 Critical Lessons from this conversation are :
- Passion overshadows Power – When one is passionate about what one is doing then automatically one seems to be indomitable and powerful. Energy and power are natural flow when one is engaged in activities that one is passionate about. Mr. Vidyashankar’s message about doing only what one feels excited about is not new yet coming from a civil servant who is always authorised with so much power to govern is truly enriching.
- Being Useful is Success -When a person is useful to others, then SUCCESS is seen by everyone around. Also this appraisal of ‘being useful’ is determined by the stakeholders!! Thus success is not a status to be enjoyed; it is an action to be performed.
- Accepting and Encouraging every citizen around us – When we are able to appreciate the role of every person in our society and cherish their contributions we automatically create our own worthiness.
What is your passion? How do you feel when you are in your zone? How are you being useful to your stakeholders at work -society or network, …How do you value your fellow beings and their contributions.
